Traffic light, 2021

triptychon, acrylic painting on canvas, 200 x 200 cm

The installation “Traffic Light” consists of three large-format acrylic paintings, each measuring 200 × 200 cm. It aims to draw attention to the topic of disability and inclusion through a playful yet deliberately provocative approach. The work seeks to broaden perspectives and promote inclusion by using the familiar symbol of a traffic light.

Traditional traffic light figures are always either standing or walking, which overlooks the fact that not everyone is able to walk. As a wheelchair user, one is always seated — therefore, the artist decided to create a traffic light with a modified pictogram resembling a wheelchair user. This serves as a symbol of equality and the adaptation of public space for everyone.

The goal of this installation is not only to attract attention but also to encourage viewers to reflect on how people with physical disabilities are perceived in everyday life. It is important to understand that public space should be accessible to everyone, without exception. The traffic light is just one step toward raising awareness of the need for inclusive design and a socially responsible approach. This installation reminds us that everyone has the right to be visible and to actively participate in society.
